About Brian Blake

I’m Brian Blake, and I’m standing for election as Police and Crime Commissioner in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the May 2021 elections. I served in the Devon and Cornwall Police for 31 years, working out of six stations in Cornwall and four in Devon – so I know both counties and their needs very well. My police career was broad-based. I spent seven years as a uniformed officer, and then worked with CID, Special Branch and the Regional and National Crime Squads. I retired as a Detective Chief Inspector.

Vote for an experienced ex-copper!

During my career, I saw at first-hand how individuals, families and communities were affected by crime and criminals – especially drug dealers. I worked on investigations into a wide range of issues, from murder, sexual assault and drug trafficking through to domestic violence and traffic accidents. I’m proud of the reputation I gained for dealing sympathetically with victims, and fairly but firmly with offenders.

After leaving the police, I worked for the Ministry of Defence and NATO, mainly in Europe in security related roles. I addressed two major Interpol conferences in Lyon and Madrid on serious international crime, and spoke to the National Police Chiefs Council in the UK on the same subject. I was also part of a Home Office enquiry into the UK’s relationship with European Police Forces.

Lived experience: and no self-promoting selfies!

These “lived experiences“ are, in my view, essential attributes for the post of Police and Crime Commissioner. My policing experience was on the ground and not in warm conference rooms with tea and biscuits. This has given me a clear understanding what victims and communities expect from their police force – and I will work with the Devon and Cornwall force to deliver on this expectation.

A VOTE FOR FORMER DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR BRIAN BLAKE AS POLICE AND CRIME COMMISIONER IS A VOTE FOR EXPERIENCE ON THE FRONT LINE

LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF EXPERIENCE

Brian Blake says: “As a direct result of the underfunding of our police force over the past ten years, we have lost 500 officers in Devon and Cornwall. The promise nationally to recruit a “further” 22,000 officers does no more than restore what was taken away in the first place. It’s not enough, and if elected as Police and Crime Commissioner I shall continue to campaign for more resources, and to work with Devon and Cornwall Police to ensure efficient and effective use of all available funds.”
